Going back in time, we know the image of the iron horse in the legend of Saint Giong. The image of the iron horse rushing into battle with Giong to defeat the brutal An invaders, then leaving behind his hat and clothes, flying back to heaven with the war horse. He and the horse created a symbol of indomitable will, extraordinary and immortal strength of patriotism, a symbol of the noble and holy qualities of the hero who saved Vietnam.
Horses are beautiful, strong, vigorous and elegant, gentle and wise, intelligent and affectionate. Through the lens of Vietnamese culture, horses are symbols of loyalty and devotion, representing patience, strong vitality, strength, and the creativity of youth. In particular, horses are often mentioned as symbols of victory and success. From these rich and profound meanings, horses have become beautiful images in many art forms: music, painting, sculpture, literature. The image of horses becomes more vivid and familiar through traditional games and festivals: horse wrestling, horse racing, horse archery, horse dancing, horse cooking... as an attractive and healthy form of cultural and sports activities, while also creating a bridge for exchange, making friends, and forming relationships. Folk festivals in many places have horse riding or processions that are very jubilant and bustling: Gióng Festival, Ke Giá Festival, Bà Chúa Ngua Festival... Besides, horses are chosen in sports, in the Northwest region horses are used in daily life, transportation, and in tourist development locations.
 
On the other hand, quiet but rich, the image of horses in architecture, shaping, decoration. Horses are diversely expressed in paintings, steles, temples, communal houses, pagodas, churches, palaces, offices... with all kinds of materials: Earth, stone, mortar, bronze, wood, ink... and with many techniques: Sculpting, molding, molding, carving, engraving, casting, baking, drawing... With the overall meaningful values, it can be explained why the image of the Horse is especially prioritized in decoration, display and as a gift.
